Applications
Tissuepatch3 is a next generation surgical sealant and barrier product from an innovative R&D pipeline. It is designed for use as an adjunct to prevent blood, air and fluid loss and to avoid post-surgical complications in thoracic and general surgery. It is not intended to replace sutures or staples, as appropriate, in tissue approximation.
Thoracic (Lung resection, decortication, biopsy)
The problem
Parenchymal air leaks:
- are the rule, not the exception, occurring in 70-80% of procedures.
- persist for over 7 days in 15% of patients
- prolong wound healing and patient recovery time.
- raise the risk of infection
- increase healthcare and hospitalisation costs
- are the most common cause of delayed hospital discharge
Tissuepatch3, our most recent development is a film-type surgical sealant. It addresses all of the surgical challenges by providing a sealed tissue surface and preventing air leakage. It is an easy-to-use film, with no preparation time and immediate visible efficacy. Clinical studies on its predecessor, Tissuepatch2 show:
- Immediate and sustained reduction in air leaks
- Easy to handle and apply
- Normal fluid discharge and patient recovery
- Early removal of chest drain(s) (107 hrs v 125-166 hrs)
- Early hospital patient discharge (6 days v 10-14 days)
- No device related adverse events
- Strong surgeon endorsement
General Surgery
Surgical sealants and barriers are indicated in general surgery of soft tissue for prevention of diffuse bleeding and fluid leakage in, for example, liver, spleen, kidney or bowel surgery. These problems may be alleviated with the adjunctive use of an absorbent, strong, viscoelastic and self-adhesive patch. Tissuepatch3 has been developed to be used in conjunction with conventional surgical techniques to seal areas of diffuse oozing, bleeding and other fluid leakage, and ultimately reduce post-operative morbidity.
Other Applications
Tissuemed’s technology platform is a major advance in ease of use and utility over conventional liquid tissue sealants. It will provide future new product introductions in neurological, gastro-intestinal, vascular, cardiac, trauma, urology and orthopaedic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and local drug delivery including anti-infectives.see also: TissuePatch3 and Technology
